About Ms. Danner
My name is Whitney Danner and I am the art teacher at Horizon Elementary.
This is my 8th year as an art educator, and this year marks my 5th year here at Horizon.
I began my teaching career in Phoenix, Arizona where I taught for three years at a K-8 school. There I was also able to coach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade soccer!
I grew up in Raytown, MO and graduated from Raytown South High. After graduation, I moved to Iowa to attend Graceland University, in Lamoni, IA. There, I was fortunate enough to play four years of varsity soccer. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Publication Writing and Design. After graduation, I returned to campus to serve as an assistant coach for the women's soccer team. Later, I moved to Des Moines, IA to attend graduate school at Drake University. I graduated from Drake with a Master of Science in Teaching with an Endorsement in Art.
After living in Iowa for 7 years and Arizona for 3, I have been very happy to be back in the KC area near my family. I am very close with my two sisters and love to spend time with them!
Art has always been a passion of mine, and I've enjoyed many avenues when it comes to being creative: from drawing and graphic design to writing, cooking, and creating movies! However, as much as I love creating for myself, I enjoy helping grow creative minds even more! Aside from teaching in the classroom, my sister and I have a painting party business, The Art of KC. We have a blast doing this together!
When I'm not in my classroom or at a painting party, you can find me playing or watching soccer! I am a huge fan of Sporting KC and attend a majority of their matches. I also play in an adult coed league. Aside from soccer, I love to travel as much as possible!
I look forward to getting to know each of you as we explore the creative side of life! If you have any questions please feel free to email me: [email protected]
